In order to identify Calvary Chapel of Tri-Cities as conservative in theology, and evangelical in spirit, we set forth this general statement of fundamental beliefs.
Calvary Chapel of the Tri-Cities has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ!
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers... and the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:42, 47
What is Calvary Chapel?
•
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings.
•
We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. See the Doctrine of the Trinity.
•
We believe in the Deity of our Lord, Jesus Christ; in His virgin birth; in His sinless life; in His Miracles; in His vicarious atonement through His death and shed blood; in His bodily resurrection; in His ascension to the right hand of the Father; in His Personal return in power and glory!
•
We believe that lost and sinful man must be saved, and that man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
•
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.
•
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are unsaved unto the resurrection of damnation.
•
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Our Services
•
We focus on a "personal relationship" with God through worship, prayer, and the teaching of the Word of God. We teach both expository and topical studies. We believe that everything should be done in a decent and orderly manner and that God will not interrupt Himself, therefore, we do not allow speaking loudly in tongues and the interruption of our services with prophecy while a bible study is in progress. We have specific "believers meetings" where believers may exercise spiritual gifts. Although we do outreach ministry to our community, our main belief concerning evangelism is that "sheep beget sheep." We feel that if we feed the flock of God and keep a fire underneath them, they will in turn, be submitted to God and have a burden to lead others to Christ.
At times, certain issues become controversial in the church. Calvary Chapel feels it necessary to take a stand in the following areas:
What We Hold To
•
The inerrancy of scripture.
•
The continuance today of the diversities of spiritual gifts as found in Corinthians 12:4-11.
•
Simplicity in church government, rather than a complex bureaucracy.
•
A dependence upon the Holy Spirit to lead, rather than fleshly promotion.
•
The pre-millennial, pre-tribulation return of Christ for His waiting church.
•
The teaching of the Word of God in such a way that it can be applied to life as beneficial toward a growing maturity.
What We Reject
•
The teaching of "positive confession".
•
The belief that true-Christians can be possessed by demons.
•
"Dominion Theology".
•
A fatalistic, Calvinistic view, which allows no room for free will.
•
Prophecy that supersedes biblical scripture.
•
The incorporation of humanistic psychology and philosophy into biblical teaching.
•
"Charismania" (the over emphasis upon spiritual gifts, experiential signs and wonders...)
The Purpose Of Calvary Chapel
•
To worship God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
•
To build up the Church of Jesus Christ through the teaching of the Word and the ministry of the spirit.
•
To persuade men and women to repent and confess Jesus Christ as their Lord unto eternal salvation!
