Answer: When Adam chose to rebel against God in the Garden of Eden by eating the forbidden fruit, Adam's relationship with God was severed and the whole creation fell. Consequently, everyone is born in a fallen state of sin, and the penalty for sin is death. However, God had a plan for the salvation of man. God, Himself, took on the form of man and died on the cross, shedding His blood for all sinners and paying the penalty for sin -- death. Because of our fallen state and sinful nature we can never be "good" enough to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. If you sin, even once, the penalty is death. It is through faith in Jesus, faith that Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for your sins that you will be saved -- through this faith all of those who believe will receive the grace and salvation of God. Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. But you must accept the gift of salvation before you will be saved.
